MEDIA PROJECT
The genre of the film that we wish to create is a thriller along with a love interest within the film called the sub genre. Our film is about a Stalker who stalks a young girl which becomes an obsession. As she has a big interest in nature as does he watches her constantly for a year and feels he knows her. One day she’s walking along the high street of her town and it is raining quite badly, so she decides to take a short cut through an alley way where no body is, out of no where the stalker comes and snatches her- this is shown by him grabbing her and her umbrella being left behind in the alley. Then we are shown him putting her into the van and her obviously struggling- there is silence as the is van driving off fast, rain splashes- cut to them at the house- slowly moves her into the basement but gentle but in control of her. He puts her in, shuts door and bolts it up. The next day she is frightened on the bed but and she hears the doors unlock- looks up its stalker bringing her breakfast which is a unique selling point as he does not hurt her and he is not like a normal kidnapper just wants to spend time with her he has brought her lots of things etc. She does not act like somebody who has been kidnapped she is quite relaxed and talks to him like he is a friend, their relationship ‘falsely develops’ through their interest in nature. The stalkers shows her the nature he has collected around the house- however, she is all the time plotting to kill him and escape (Show snippets of her sharpening a stone vigorously) as he comes in to give her lunch he leaves the doors open- she is very ill at this point of a cold from not having enough fresh air. She is now sat with her back to him on bed with legs crossed looks demented- he leans over to put lunch down on table- she jumps up and screams running towards him- plunges stone into his neck- runs for the door trips over from being so weak- crawls through back door and tries to escape- does she escape? Yes- not shown in trailer though.
Our film will be shown as fifteen as the cinemas and the target audience will be people that are interested in the thriller genre but also like to see a bit of a love interest. Unique Selling Point: Has a love interest in it when it is a thriller/ both the main characters are not what you would expect to find in this type of film- kidnapper only wants to spend time with girl/ girl does not seem phased by experience but she turns demented whereas he remains obsessed. Why people enjoy seeing this type of film:
Because people find them exciting as they are action packed. Even though it scares you it makes you want to know what happens. You know in yourself things like this could happen but you want to find out more/ like the exaggerated version. They put you on edge. People enjoy the thrill of being scared.
USES AND GRATIFICATION THEORY: 1. INFORMATION - our film teaches us how you should be aware of people around you and how we should never take ‘short cuts’ in like and remain safe. 2. PERSONAL IDENTIITY – learning about yourself and being more aware of what’s going on around you and to not trust anyone. 3. INTEGRATION AND SOCIAL INTERACTION - how she misses her family, how they bond together, he is not like a normal kidnapper as he does not hurt her in any way. They communicate by talking about nature something in which they have in common. 4. ENTERTAINMENT – she escapes at the end, how she fills the time with the things has bought her and the emotional release.
